Credit Repair Steps to Free Yourself From Debt

Herschel Bentley asked:

Financial institutions and credit card companies have been so easy to deal with in the past that you may suddenly be surprised how heavily in debt you are. Since your credit rating can affect even your personal life, you are most likely interested in some credit repair tips. Ratings have ceased to affect the financial aspect of your life alone. There are cases when engagements have broken up because one of them is in too much debt. You can even lose your chance to get a job because some potential employers do check credit scores.

Knowing the proper ways to do credit repair is easy, but implementing it is the challenging part. Take the first step for example. If you want to make sure that you are going to take away your debt, you have to stop making them. As tempting as your credit cards are, stop using them since they will just accumulate more problems. Be in control and break the habit of whipping out your cards every time you are shopping. As much as possible, you should learn to budget hard and rely on cash alone.

While you are trying to avoid making more debts, make sure you get a reality check and get a hold of your credit report. There are so many sites online that will be able to help you obtain this information for free so take advantage and learn how far you are in the scales. Make sure to check the entries because there are some instances when there are repetitions or erroneous information. You can be able to dispute these irregularities so that you can help boost your rating.

When implementing credit repair, one of the worse things you can do is to close your existing accounts. Avoid closing your delinquent credit card accounts because it would hurt your current score. The best action to take is to call your creditors and ask for a little reprieve. Most of them are willing to adjust the payment terms as long as you are still willing to pay since it will be advantageous for them on the long run. Once you have reduced your current interests and monthly dues, start paying your accounts even if you have to sell some of your assets. It’s a small sacrifice for making sure that you are going to be free from debt in the future.

Credit Repair Advice

Simeon Knight asked:

Credit Repair Advice is at an all time high primarily due to the devastating effect that the economy has had on many. There are several steps that individuals should take when assessing their credit histories. Therefore seeking proper credit repair advice could make a huge difference in future quality of life!

Okay so 2009 is dead and gone, and we are more than half way done with 2010. That is a good thing for some, and not so great for others. Some wanted to start the New Year leaving all 2009 issues behind and in the past. However, for others, they have brought mistakes (on their credit reports) from 2009 with them through the New Year. Many know that they have credit issues but have never pulled a report to determine their specific need. So what type of credit repair advice do you need to make sure that your credit is safe and fault free?

First, order a credit report. Here’s why…

Credit Repair Advice Regarding Identity theft
Believe it or not, there are some pretty clever criminals out there. There are some people who are sly enough to steal your account numbers, credit cards, socials, and other factors that are used as different avenues solely to use your name for their financial benefit, which, in turn, will leave you in quite a bind. You’re going to want to pull your credit report so that you may recieve proper credit repair advice regarding anyone who has succeeded in stealing your identity. Thus, enabling you to take care of the situation as soon as possible.

Credit Repair Advice Regarding Source of information
Source of information your “source of information” on your credit reports is all of your past and present information. When you apply for credit cards, loans, or pull your credit, you have to fill out your address, social, birth date, and other information about your present self. This information gets reported to your credit reports, and a lot of the time (and I mean A LOT) it is reported incorrectly. You need to check this information on your reports to see that it is accurate, because most likely there is a mistake.

Credit Repair Advice Regarding Errors on Accounts
Mistakes happen. It’s as simple as that. It’s almost inevitable. You want to pull your credit to make sure that accounts on your credit reports are reporting accurately. You want to make sure that account balances are reporting correctly. That is a huge deal. If you have a paid off credit card, but the credit bureaus are reporting the balance as the high limit, then it is going to look like your credit card is maxed out, and ultimately drop your scores 50-100 points, all because of a mistake made by the bureaus, which, as I said earlier, is pretty much going to happen unless you monitor your scores and stay on top of your credit.

Pulling your credit report is the first step to make sure that you have the ability to clean up any thing that has been reported improperly. Furthermore, even the best credit repair company will not be able to give you adequate credit repair advice without reviewing your personal report. Proper credit repair advice starts with the review of your report and will lead to credit worthiness, financial stability and credit happiness in the new decade!

Confessions of a Credit Repair Agency

Marc Chase asked:

Credit Repair, a very debated topic on the net right now as to whether it’s legal, effective, ethical and an avenue worth pursuing for individuals with negative, inaccurate or unverifiable information on their credit reports. No matter where you search, you will find varying opinions in regard the legitimacy of the credit repair industry, from The FTC and Attorney General, to Debt consolidation companies and law firms practicing credit repair companies. First off to answer the question is Credit Repair and its practitioner’s legal, the answer is yes! There is a specific body of legislation, The Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA) that outlines how credit repair companies may legally operate. This Federal regulation is proof that the industry as a whole is legal and not a scam. I think the negative overtones are more likely a case of a few hundred bad apples taking advantage of people.

The second most debated topic in many of the popular credit forums is whether or not one should even use a credit repair company, or give it a go themselves? The Art of Credit Repair or credit restoration is not necessarily a difficult one to grasp and despite what a lot of the Credit repair companies and lawyers would like you to believe, there is no “magical, proprietary dispute letter”. Remember, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) was set up so that consumers could fix errors on their credit reports on their own. It was not set up so consumers could fix errors If they had the magic letter. It really is almost as simple as saying….

“Hey this is not my account, please verify the information and remove from my report”

So why would you consider hiring a company to improve your credit score if it is so easy? The art of credit repair is not perfectly written letter, but more of knowing the little tricks credit bureaus and collection agents use to avoid eliminating the debt. As much bad press credit repair agencies have received, Bureaus and Collection agencies are no angels either. They try and trick you, they don’t always follow procedure and we’ve seen numerous cases of them breaking promises consumers have made with them when negotiating debt.

Credit Report Repair Agencies should be well versed and know what to expect and exactly how to negotiate through all the little tricks that the average consumer wouldn’t. If you are lucky enough to be working with an ethical Company that does its job and at a good price, it can work wonders for your credit score. The people we spoke with that do favor using an agency to fix their credit, do so because typically it’s only 30.00 to 50.00 per month and they just don’t feel like dealing with the headaches, nor do they want to be their own guinea pigs.

If you do make the decision you would rather leave it to the pros, what steps should you take to make sure you’re hiring the right company? At the time of writing this there is very little governing the industry outside of CROA and it is a craps shoot for the most part.

However, there is hope on the horizon. Currently a non-profit organization is being formed called The National Credit Repair Association (NCRA) This industry organization brings overdue legitimacy and integrity to the credit repair field, and represents all certified credit repair organizations. The idea is that accredited credit repair firms are overseen to ensure they embody top standards and ethics, and adhere to all applicable state and federal laws in their practices. In other words, the “BBB” of the Credit Repair Industry. We highly recommend that you utilize this service when fully launched as it will force legitimate companies to sign up much like they would the BBB and it will also weed out the unscrupulous credit repair companies who do not wish to adhere to standards. The Credit Repair industry is a legal and much needed industry, but much like any “new fad” its going to take time to get regulated, weed out the scum and let the professionals rise to the top.

In closing credit repair is something that most Americans will probably have to deal with at some point in their lives. It can be done by you with a little homework, accurate record keeping and patience, or you can hire a firm just as long as you’ve done your homework, insist the company is a member of The NCRA and make sure they are not breaking laws when dealing with your personal credit scores.

Credit Repair Reality

Robert Hope asked:

I’m sure you have noticed that people need now credit more than ever, but what do you do if you have bad credit? Millions of Americans are suffering from bad credit everyday, they are getting turned down/denied everyday items such as cars, homes, loans, and credit cards. Or they are paying hundreds of dollars more per month in interest and having to put down considerable size deposits and down payments because of their poor credit score. Does that sound familiar?

There is hope! You can legally have your credit cleaned. 80% of all credit reports contain inaccuracies! It is important to keep a watch on your credit. If you are suffering from bad credit you may believe that you have to wait the full 7 – 10 years for everything to ‘fall” off before ever having anything nice…I’m here to tell you that you don’t! As mentioned you can legally dispute anything on your credit report and if it isn’t verified than the credit bureau must delete the trade line. Negative items such as Bankruptcies, Foreclosures, Medical collections, Collections, Charge Offs, Late Payments, Repossessions, tax liens, and inquiries can be legally removed.

The most popular way to get these items off your reports is to hire a Credit Repair Company. Make sure you hire the right one though, there are lots out there that are charging “low” monthly fees and not doing much work on the customers credit each month just to draw out fees! Those seem to be the most popular because the customer can sign up for little to no money, but if you do the math after a year you would have paid them over $600 and still not got very good results because they were just drawing out the process! Think about it, if they were to clean your credit fast you’d cancel, right? So where is the real motivation to get the customers credit clean as quickly as possible? There is none! And then other companies are charging ridiculous amounts of money to clean your credit. Don’t fall prey to either one of those type of companies.

Credit Repair is honestly worth a lot more than $600 or even $1000, just imagine how much you will save each month on your car and house payments and even your insurance! You will save thousands of dollars on common purchases by having better credit, plus you won’t be required to have to put down huge deposits and down payments just because you have a poor credit rating. But I don’t recommend paying Endless monthly fees or over $400 for credit repair. There are better companies out there!

A reputable company should be able to clean your credit up as much as is possible in six months or less, so the company should have a set program, not just a monthly fee for no set time frame. Also a good company should stand behind their customers by offering to continue working on their customers credit for free after six months if there are still negative items on their reports. No one should pay more than $400 for credit repair, period. A good company should also have a Money Back Guarantee, if they don’t, then keep looking because something doesn’t sound right!

It is possible to have good credit again and there are many good quality companies out there that truly are in the business of helping people. So I wish you the best of luck and am happy you are looking to better your financial future, no time is better than now!
