ABOUT THE STORY

A Burro’s Tale is a magical mixture of fact and fiction and is meant to whisk the reader away to a simpler time, when the little everyday things in life were the important things. The setting for this story is Old Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the surrounding valleys. Jerusalem, for the purposes of this story, has been transformed into Old Santa Fe, and the story has a warm Hispanic blanket wrapped around it.

The story takes place at a time when burros were at the center of commerce, used for going, plowing fields, pulling carts, and carrying goods from the market. Raphael’s family lives close to the land, and the family business is renting out burros to the townsfolk who do not have the facilities to keep a burro of their had. He is known for having some of the finest working burros in the valley, and the burros in his stable congratulating themselves on putting forth their best effort in gratitude for the excellent care Raphael provides for them.

Raphael has employed a local carpenter throughout the summer to help with some repairs around the ranch. As their friendship grows, Raphael learns that Joseph’s wife, Maria, is going to have a child. Winter is rolling in, and everyone in the area is grumbling over a mandate from the capital stating that they must all travel to the city for a census. Raphael’s burros have all been rented, with the exception of Pedro, when Joseph and Maria arrive in need of a burro to assist them on their journey. Raphael’s family accompanies Joseph, Maria, and Pedro on the trip, and they unexpectedly wind up smack-dab in the middle of the first Christmas.

The story is meant to be enjoyed by the whole family, and in peculiar, leave the teens and young adults with the understanding that a strong work ethic and having congratulated in a job well done, will follow them and benefit them for the rest of their lives.

What a heartfelt story. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. You will be captivated throughout the journey that these little Burro’s take. If you have ever been around horses, you will appreciate the author’s ability to bring these characters to life in such a realistic manner. You will laugh at some of their antics and cry at some of their predicaments. I guarantee you will be able to relate with each and every Burro. Perfect for everyone in the family to enjoy. I look forward to the next set of adventures this gang goes on. There must be a sequel; it is too good to stop here! Don’t disappoint us PJ Day, you are an incredible story teller!

I read this book not knowing what to expect. Wow, was I impressed. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that truly grabs my heart and tickles my sides at the same time. After I read the book, I gave it to my cousin who is a teacher and she read it to her students and they loved it. She loved it so much, she is making it part of her class tradition every year! It has something for everyone. I could imagine this book being a great animated cartoon some day.

This beautiful story will be read to my little ones the year and for years to come. This is really something special that everyone should read. Not just for the children, but a wonderful story for the whole family. The fact that it takes place in a part of the country where I grew up and spent my youth just makes it that much more special. What a wonderful, beautiful, brilliant story. I fell in love with this book. Reading it was like living it. If you can capture my attention long enough to get to that level then I know this is a very special book. The story is so vivid, so real. Once you read it you will feel every little thing that goes on in this beautiful story. Just close your eyes and visualize. This story is perfect for people of all ages. Adults will love it, children will love it, men, women, boys and girls. It will make you laugh and cry, yet you can’t stop reading it. I looked forward to every chapter, a new day, a new event. I love, love, love this book. I hope to see this on the big screen soon. Read it, live it, love it! Credit also goes to the artist who captured every tiny detail. The burros are beautiful, each with their own personalities.

Texas Company Allegedly Used Social Networking Site Facebook and Text Messages to Collect Debt from Texas Consumer

Social Networking websites and mobile technology have created new ways to communicate and connect with family, friends and businesses as well, however one Texas company allegedly went too far when attempting to collect payment for home improvement services. In addition to alleged contact via Facebook, Texas consumer and Plaintiff Lynn Kirkpatrick received numerous text messages, cell phone calls and voice mails that contained obscene and offensive language and threats according to a petition (No. C2011-1319A) filed in the Comal County Texas District Court by Weisberg & Meyers, LLC, Attorneys for Consumers. The complaint alleges defendants Homeland Septic, LLC and owners Justin Smock and Lawrence Brumbelow violated the Texas Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, Texas Business Commerce Code.

According to court documents, Plaintiff Lynn Kirkpatrick contracted with Homeland Septic to perform work in his back yard on the septic system and allegedly did not accept or approve the work and disputed the final bill. Homeland Septic allegedly claimed the work was complete and payment for the services was due and despite Mr. Kirkpatrick’s disputes, the defendants allegedly continued to hound Mr. Kirkpatrick for payment.

Collection efforts allegedly included voice mails and text messages containing abusive, vulgar language and threats regarding Mr. Kirkpatrick’s family and home. According to court documents, defendant Smock allegedly sent a communication to Kirkpatrick using social media site Facebook’s messaging system, claiming he had placed a lien on Plaintiff’s house for an amount that was 3 times the amount of the money owed when in fact court records showed no lien had been officially filed and placed on Mr. Kirkpatrick’s home.

According to recent news articles, the collection methodology used by debt collectors has changed due to the popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and the easy access to user’s personal information these sites provide. Many social networking users are unaware of the privacy settings available in their account which could prevent unauthorized access by any “non-friends”, including debt collectors. These sites can provide a plethora of information to a debt collector including contact details, friends and employment, thus aiding in locating a debtor and facilitating debt collection efforts.

According to Mr. Kirkpatrick’s attorneys Weisberg & Meyers, LLC, Attorneys for Consumers and the petition, Homeland Septic allegedly committed multiple violations causing the plaintiff to suffer personal humiliation, embarrassment, mental anguish, and emotional distress.
